Colorado, the historical leader of all things cannabis-related, is charging toward also being the nation’s King/Queen Hemp.

Governor Jared Polis recently spoke at a hemp and CBD supplement conference held by the American Herbal Products Association on August 16, according to Westword. There, Polis stated his administration’s commitment to keeping cannabis a state priority. At the conference, he outlined a plan to make hemp an agricultural priority in Colorado as hemp was federally legalized in 2018.

“We know what’s worked to grow our agricultural sectors, and it’s no different for hemp,” Polis said, according to Westword. “It’s a big part of our rural economic initiative.”

With the legalization, Colorado is going to have to be a bit more competitive when it comes to these plants lest states like Oregon, Washington, California, and Montana catch up.

However, Polis is such an advocate of hemp that even his friggin’ business cards are made from it.

According to the Westword article, Polis wants to increase the already 62,000 acres in Colorado already by 20 percent. By next year. To accomplish this, Polis’s administration is looking at easing up on regulations. Making it more like growing corn than marijuana, Ean Seeb, the governor’s marijuana policy advisor said at the conference.

Will Colorado prevail? Zuul only knows but it seems growable.
