“We gonna rock down to Electric Avenue. And then we’ll take it higher.”
That is the song that was playing in my head on a loop as I wrote this weed review. Why, you ask, was Eddy Grant’s classic “Electric Avenue” strumming through my head on this particular morning? Well, dear reader, that’s because this week’s strain review happens to be Electric Lemon G, a gorgeous little sativa-dominant hybrid. Wait ... you’re still confused as to what Electric Lemon G and Electric Avenue have in common other than the word “electric” and six syllables? Me too. Guess that’s just how my weird, broken stoner brain works.
Anyway, I digress. As I said, this week, we’re reviewing the strain Electric Lemon G, grown by none other than Durango Cannabis Company. I picked it up at Durango’s newest dispensary, The Green House. This strain is a cross between the impressively potent G13 and Northern Lights #5. When you open up this container, you’re instantly hit with a delightful citrus aroma, mostly lemon. Take another moment to breathe in these pretty little buds and you’ll also notice the earthy tones emitting from the flower. Each little nug is a lovely little mix of orange and yellow, like a sunrise, which is fitting because the weed-growing pros over at DCC highly recommend you wake-and-bake with this strain.
I could not show up to work higher than the moon, so I opted to light this strain up later in the evening instead. I was attempting to power-read a book I had to return to the library the next day when I decided to take a little break and go for a smoke. Turns out my roommate had already gotten into my new stash and was already completely red in the face and eyes. I ran into them while I was attempting to do laundry and instantly burst into laughter when my they attempted to have a conversation with me. They could barely keep their eyes open and their cheeks were flushed so deeply it looked like they’d been rubbing the buds all over their face.
Turns out, I shouldn’t have been laughing too hard because only a minute later we were outside braving the chill while lighting up a bowl, old school style. The citrus-lemon flavor was especially evident as we sucked the smoke down our lungs. Unfortunately, Electric Lemon G also caused instant coughing, which sent us into laughing fits so loud our other roommate opened the door to make sure we weren’t choking to death.
At one point, my (now very high) roommate was seeing shapes outside they were convinced were dogs (who were safely inside, quietly judging us through the window). Turns out it was just shrubbery. Not so ridiculous when you consider that only a few days before, a homeless person was relieving themselves in the bushes next to our humble abode and nearly gave our other roommate a heart attack. Still, we decided when the shape-seeing started, it was time to go inside and plant ourselves in front of the TV and enjoy our pleasant head highs.
Speaking of head highs, Electric Lemon G’s sativa leaning tendency delivered on that front. My favorite part about sativas is feeling like your head is surrounded by fluffy clouds of euphoria. Everything is hilarious and that means shows like “The Office,” which are already make us laugh to the point of tears, are that much funnier. Can we all just take a minute to appreciate the comedic genius of Rainn Wilson?
The point is, you can’t go wrong with a strain like this. If you’re looking for some flower that smells good, looks good, and makes you feel good, Electric Lemon G is your girl. Maybe just don’t go outside when it’s dark or you’ll start seeing weird shapes. Trust us.
