There will be, soon enough, plenty of new music to pore over. In the coming months, we will have new records from many aforementioned artists. Merge Records founders and indie punk heavyweights Superchunk will have a new record “What a Time to Be Alive” in mid-February. Childish Gambino has apparently been recording new music in secret while living in London this last year while filming the Han Solo standalone film. Gambino, aka Donald Glover, has been *perfectly* cast in the film, playing a young Lando Calrissian. Consider me excited on two entertainment fronts. My Bloody Valentine are reissuing analog vinyl remastered versions of both “Isn’t Anything” and “Loveless,” but more enticing is promised brand new music from MBV. The above are all but guaranteed. The following are wish-listed and by no means substantiated.
Heartless Bastards: Erika Wennerstrom and co. have released a record every three years since 2006’s “All This Time.” The indie country/blues-rock outfit out of Ohio last gave us “Restless Ones” back in 2015, so I can only hope that we are treated to a surprise tri-yearly album and tour any day now.
TV on the Radio: Again, I know nothing of a new TVOTR record, but a fan can hope, right? The fifth studio record by Brooklyn’s finest was released in November 2014. They, too, release albums at a three- or four-year clip, so I’m putting it out there. If I could will this record into existence, I would.
Drag the River: It’s been a while since Fort Collins-based Drag the River put out a proper record and I know zero about this band’s happenings. I do know that if there is a Drag album coming, Durango might just be lucky enough to woo a tour stop out of Snodgrass, Price, etc. That’s a pretty big maybe, but a Crags/Farmington Hill/Drag the River triple bill would certain scratch my current itch for the lack of live music I’ve been seeing.
