When music and politics meet

by DGO Web Administrator

Every 98 seconds, someone is sexually assaulted in America.

Politics and poetry come together at Hip Hop Against Sexual Assault on Thursday, April 13, at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive

Head to the Vallecito Room in the Student Union from 7-9 p.m. to see rapper Masta Ace, one of the greatest New York MCs ever, and Wake Self, one of New Mexico’s most popular musicians, throw down civic awareness with mad skills.

Dr. Torie Weiston-Serdan and Dr. Lauren Leigh Kelly will speak before the show about sexual assault and how it affects our communities. Like how one out of six American women have been the victim of an attempted or completed rape or how one in 33 American men, have experienced the same.

Music makes the medicine go down easier with a subject that can be hard to discuss.

Free and open to the public.
