DGO picks in and around Durango: May 17 to 23

BrewberryIf you like fruity beer, you’re in luck, because Durango Brewing Co. is releasing their seasonal Blueberry Wheat in the taproom this weekend. The local crowd-pleaser will be available in cans and on draft, which means you can snag some for your visit and for your home. The beer is not only a great warm-weather cold one, but also comes complete with antioxidants from the blueberries. It’s like guilt-free beer drinking.

Bass beatsBefore the massive mainstream festivals launch for the season, you can catch the grassroots event known as One Vibration Music Festival, which highlights sound and bass for a more intimate experience. Artists will include Buku, Stylust Beats, Govinda Music, along with a ton of others.

Shopping the salesIf you need some new gear, you’re in serious luck, because Backcountry Experience will be hosting their huge Spring Sale and Flea Market. Not only can you find killer deals on outdoor goods throughout the weekend, but you can buy, sell, and barter with your own stuff on Saturday during the flea market. Might not be brand new, but it’s all new to you, right?

Spring cleaningSpring cleaning isn’t only for your humble abode. The fly fishing shop Duranglers will be hosting an Animas River clean-up event to help keep one of Durango’s natural wonders nice and pristine. If you want to help out, you can meet at Schneider Park and help do your part. There are even perks ASIDE from helping out nature, because when it’s over, volunteers will meet back at the park for lunch, and a prize will be given to the lucky person who found the best trash. Bring gloves, water, sunscreen, and durable shoes.

Feast-ivalIf you’re hungry, or perhaps just a wee bit peckish, you should head to Main Avenue for the 2018 Taste of Durango. The food festival spotlights local breweries and restaurants, including Ska Brewing, El Moro, Silverwave Seafood, The Yellow Carrot, and Animas Brewing Co. Get in my belly!
