Mini book review: ‘The Art of Frugal Hedonism: A Guide to Spending Less While Enjoying Everything More,’ by Annie-Raser-Rowland and Adam Grubb

by Keena Kimmel

Passing through Durango in 2000, I decided I couldn’t leave; I’d been searching for home and found it. A guy warned me shortly after arriving that Durango is a “two dog, three job town.” Sadly, I’ve seen many folks skip town since, reluctantly moving on, in search of cheaper rent. There are endless free adventures awaiting you in the mountains just beyond your doorstep, but the cost of living is daunting for many, particularly if you’re one who relies on the short tourist season for squirreling away much of your yearly income.

The Art of Frugal Hedonism,” by Annie Raser-Rowland and Adam Grubb, is a super little guide designed to help you suck the marrow out of life and pay the piper, too. No doubt you’ve already tried some of the included tips, but there are still plenty that will make you holler, “Why didn’t I think of that?!” This, and it’s relayed in the jaunty lilt of two animated Aussies with a flair for language that generates grins. There’s no better way to beat the snow-less winter blues than to pick up a copy of “The Art of Frugal Hedonism” and hatch all the ways you’ll live big on the cheap.
