All you bats and ghouls, the creature feature is calling you … or at least it was. Old-time Durango used to have midnight monster shows at the Kiva for 65 cents a seat! As if that wasn’t enough to bring all the mummies and murderers out, anyone “brave enough” to stay through the whole movie “Murders in the Rue Morgue” was given a free ticket to another show.
Um, yes, I can sit through your black and white, 1932 loose adaptation of the Poe story, especially since it stars Bela Lugosi a year after he played Dracula.
If you haven’t seen it, “Murders in the Rue Morgue” is a cult classic that takes place in 1845 Paris. A mad scientist abducts virgins and injects them with ape blood to, um, try and morph them into a girlfriend for his sideshow ape, Erik.
WT and F. Gotta love them Pre-Code Hollywood days before motion picture censorship guidelines went into effect in the mid-1930s.
