DGO picks in and around Durango: October 4 to 10

by DGO Web Administrator

OktoberfestivitiesDear readers – we realize the weekend is for laying around and shoving chips down your gullet, but it is also for guzzling and celebrating beer. So, if you do nothing else this weekend, don’t make the mistake of missing Oktoberfest Durango. Featuring favorites from the Durango Bootleggers Society – Steamworks Brewing Co., Ska Brewing Co., Animas Brewing Co., Carver Brewing Co., and Brew Pub & Kitchen – Durangatangs will soak in the glorious suds and tasty food, live music, art booths, and games.

Details: Oct. 6, Oktoberfest, 1 p.m., $5, Purgatory Resort, 1 Skier Place, oktoberfestdurango.com

Too soon for Mardi Gras? NahYes, we know it’s a bit early for Mardi Gras, but one could also argue that it’s NEVER too early for Mardi Gras. Highway 3 Roadhouse and Oyster Bar knows this, and that’s why they’re hosting Mardi Gras this weekend for the Alternative Horizons fundraiser, an organization that supports survivors of domestic violence in La Plata and San Juan counties. Mardi Gras AND a good cause? We can’t think of a better combo.

Details: Oct. 6, Mardi Gras at the Roadhouse, 1 p.m., $75, Highway 3 Roadhouse and Oyster Bar, 955 Colorado Hwy 3, alternativehorizons.org

How about them apples?Kill two birds with one apple this weekend by filling your belly with delicious fruit AND eliminating waste, both of which can be done by harvesting apples for the 10th Annual Apple Days Festival. Then, once all the hard work is done, apple pickers (or anyone, really) can return Sunday to make apple juice, compete for an apple pie-eating crown, and enjoy live music.

Details: Oct. 6-7, Apple Days Festival, 11 a.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. Sunday, free, Buckley Park, 1250 Main Ave., facebook.com/goodfoodcollectiveco
