Drink your weed

by Amanda Push

As the legalization of cannabis becomes more mainstream, so does the budding interest in cannabis-infused drinks.

One of the biggest developments of cannabis beverages to hit national headlines was when Keith Villa, the creator of the Blue Moon Belgian White, left MillerCoors in 2018 to pursue his interest in the cannabis industry. That move lent itself to the development of Ceria Brewing Co. and its Grainwave Belgian-style White Ale, a THC-infused cannabis beer.

While there were certainly other cannabis-infused beverages on the market, Villa’s new product seemed to spur widespread interest in these types of products. After all, while food edibles have come a long way and remain a staple of the cannabis industry, the pleasure of eating a weed gummy is fleeting. On the other hand, you can nurse a beverage for a much longer period of time. With a THC-infused drink, you can enjoy everything from seltzers to beers.

But don’t take our word for it. Take a look at some of these top-notch cannabis-infused beverages sold in Colorado.

Oh Hi

Originating in Durango, these sparkling cannabis-infused drinks were created in a meeting of the minds of some of Durango’s most successful entrepreneurs. In 2019, Durango Organics owners Jonny Radding and Aaron Miles and Ska Brewing co-owner Matt Vincent released Oh Hi seltzers, which comes in four flavors: ginger basil limeade, pomegranate, grapefruit, and lemon-lime. While pomegranate, grapefruit, and lemon-lime are dosed with 10 mg of THC each, ginger basil limeade contains 5 mg of THC and 5 mg of CBD.

One of the company’s most recent creations is its Budtender’s Reserve series, much more heavily THC-infused beverages for the more experienced cannabis fans. This line comes in tropical thunder, high tea, orange sunshine, grateful grape, sucker punch. Each comes with 100 mg of THC, and some even have caffeine.

These canned edibles are available for sale in Colorado and Oklahoma.

Ceria Brewing Co.

As we mentioned at the top, Ceria Brewing Co. was started by Keith Villa who retired from MillerCoors after 32 years with the company. Since then, Villa and his team have gone on to develop a pretty impressive list of products of cannabis-infused beers, Grainwave Belgian-style White Ale being their first.

The Grainwave Belgian-style White Ale is non-alcoholic, as are all the beers at Ceria Brewing. It comes with 5 mg of THC and is described by the company as a “refreshing, medium-bodied ale brewed with blood orange peel and coriander and infused with THC for a new spin on a Belgian classic.”

Ceria’s newest brew, the Indiewave IPA, taps into Colorado’s love of terpenes with 10 mg of THC and 10 mg of CBD. Ceria describes their dealcoholized beverage as “a flavorful, balanced West Coast IPA that perfectly balances light caramel malts with Cascade, Citra, and Amarillo hops for a smooth citrus character.”

Verywell

Just a few years after Villa left MillerCoors to pursue his own company, the beloved Colorado beer brand launched its own line of cannabis beverages. This line of CBD-infused sparkling water, Verywell, was released by Truss CBD USA — owned by Molson Coors — and Hexo Corp, a Canadian cannabis company. Instead of THC, Verywell is infused by hemp-derived CBD which allows for the company to sell its products all over the U.S. as hemp is legal in the states.

The CBD sparkling water comes in three flavors: grapefruit-tarragon, strawberry-hibiscus, and blueberry-lavender. Each can comes with 20 mg of CBD, which, in case you need a reminder, will not get you high. Truss even uses Colorado hemp to make its products, General Manager Jane Armstrong Hockman told the Denver Post.

Keef Brands

Keef Brands, born and bred in Boulder, Colo. in 2010, has been creating THC-infused beverages for a long time. Among their cannabis-drink lineup is their classic sodas, energy drinks, sparkling water, Life H20 (a non-carbonated, low sugar-flavored water), and mocktails.

The great thing about each of these products is Keef is never lacking in flavor. Keef Cola comes in four different flavors – grape, root beer, original cola, and orange crush, all of which have 10 mg of THC in them. You can sip on Keef Sparkling H2O in blood orange, raspberry, and blackberry coconut. Life H2O comes in four flavors: blueberry-lemon (indica), sour cherry (THC:1/CBD:1), cranberry lime (sativa), and strawberry kiwi (hybrid) while the mocktails are available in fruit punch, pineapple, and lemonade.

CannaPunch

For years, CannaPunch has been perfecting its non-carbonated, THC-infused beverage recipe. Their drinks are 100% organic, vegan, simple but effective. At 100 mg a pop, CannaPunch offers its drinks in pineapple mango delight, blue raspberry sour, grand daddy grape, watermelon nectar, black cherry fusion, and strawberry kiwi. Drinker beware! This stuff is quite potent.
