Durango community remembers lives lost in Orlando

To show support for the victims and survivors of the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, the Four Corners Alliance for Diversity will be holding a candlelight vigil on Tuesday June 14 at 8:30 p.m. at Rotary Park in Durango. There will also be a moment of silence at the Animas City Theatre on Wednesday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m., and a memorial tribute at Buckley Park on Saturday June 25 at 3 p.m.

Durango Pride released the following statement on their Facebook page: “The amount of violence and hate our community faces is ridiculous but we are a strong, resilient people that will never stop fighting for equality in the hope that we can create a better world. We are with you in spirit Florida.”

On Sunday, an American-born man killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S. to date, as well as the worst terror attack in the U.S. since 9/11. The gunman, who had pledged allegiance to ISIS, additionally wounded at least 53.
