6 strains to help you toast the final days of summer

by Amanda Push

It may be all fun in the 90-degree sun right now, but as the temperatures start to drop, long vacations grind to a halt, and we start seeing back-toschool sales everywhere we go, it will be clear that another summer has come and gone.

And, you know what that means? It means no more laying out in the sun and getting your tan on after you’ve taken an edible. No more smoking a joint or vape on your patio. No more weed-smoking fun in the sun.

Hard pass, thanks.

OK, OK, maybe not so much a hard pass as “boo, hiss.”

We know the changing of the seasons is just part of the course of nature. There’s no stopping fall from encroaching on our summer territory, but the good news is that we still have time to give hot weed summer one last hoorah. Here are a few strains that will help you wave goodbye to summer the right way: while stoned.

Cookies and Cream

Type: Hybrid

If you’re going to mourn the end of summer, mourn it with Cookies and Cream, a strain of weed that smells like vanilla and has a bit of a candied taste to it. Cookies and Cream is a consistent favorite of ours because of its super potency yet relaxing qualities.

It’s a hybrid strain, with lineage that stems from Starfighter and GSC (formerly known as Girl Scout Cookies).
Be warned, though: With this rad body high, you’ll also be subject to Sahara levels of cottonmouth so keep a glass of water on hand, just in case.

GSC/Girl Scout Cookie

Type: Indica-dominant hybrid

GSC is a popular strain due to its parentage — the well-loved OG Kush and Durban Poison. This hybrid strain has a sweet aroma, but with earthy notes as well. GSC gives you that euphoric party-high that makes social events a little more relaxing. GSC will shoot your mind and body up to space and back with its full-body effects.

Don’t let the name fool you, though. This strain has some hella potent THC levels — generally ranging from 17-28 percent, which is a big reason GSC has quite a few Cannabis Cup award notches in its belt. GSC is also a great remedy for pain, nausea, and loss of appetite.

Holy Grail Kush

Type: Hybrid

We picked Holy Grail Kush, a hybrid weed strain, as this marijuana match. The spawn of OG #18 and Kosher Kush, this strain gives off a mellow and relaxing vibe. Holy Grail Kush is also quite aromatic. It’s a delicious mixture of spicy, kushy, and citrusy which would go well with a summer marg on your patio.
On top of all these great assets, Holy Grail Kush won the hybrid category at the 2011 High Times Cannabis Cup and was the first competitor to achieve a perfect score.

Strawberry Cough

Type: Sativa

A well-loved sativa, Strawberry Cough is perfect for lifting you out of the end-of-summer glum and into some pretty epic cerebral highs. It isn’t exactly known what parentage Strawberry Cough comes from, it is thought to be a blend of Strawberry Fields and Haze.

An interesting fact: If you’ve ever watched the film “Children of Men,” this is the strain the stoner hippie friend played by Michael Caine is referring to while he smokes a joint on his couch. While this strain does have some sweet strawberry notes to it, it also smells like skunky weed, so be careful where you toke.

Super Lemon Haze

Type: Sativa

Lemony-fresh and energizing, we chose Super Lemon Haze, aka SLH, as a way to celebrate the end of summer. A sativa-leaning hybrid, this strain captures the citrus and zesty notes we adore in summer drinks.
Aside from its summery flavor and smell, Super Lemon Haze is also just eye-catching: a yellow hue with flecks of burnt orange peppering the buds. An excellent way to enjoy the last of our pre-fall days.

Tangerine Dream

Type: Sativa
Sticking with our fruity theme, we also picked Tangerine Dream. Tangerine Dream was created from the strains G13, Afghani, and Neville’s A5 Haze and has a citrus aroma and offers joy and euphoria when it’s smoked.

Some consider this strain to have healing qualities that can reduce the effects of migraines, nausea, pain, and lack of energy. Like the fan-favorite strains Durban Poison, it offers an equal balance of both relaxation and clarity.
