It’s time to grab your waistband and do the Urkel. Jaleel White, the actor who played the unforgettable Steve Urkel on the sitcom “Family Matters,” has recently released his line of cannabis products. We couldn’t be more excited and, unlike the Winslows, we won’t be kicking Steve Urkel out anytime soon.
As we watch this new product line rollout, it leads one to reflect on what other celebrities are there. So, without further ado, let’s take a peek behind the curtain at which celebrities have backed some of the most unique cannabis products.
Jaleel White
Excuse us, but Jaleel White’s new marijuana company, itsPurpl, might be one of the most creative cannabis lines we’ve come across. That and we can’t stop making “Family Matters” jokes. It’s a win, win!
“For over 20 years, friends and family have sent me photos of my TV character self plastered across a wide range of cannabis products,” White wrote on the company’s website. “Anyone who knows me personally as Jaleel White, knows I am an ardent seeker of curated adventures, big laughs, and excellent food. All three of these interests are enormously enhanced by top-shelf cannabis. Lovers of purple cannabis can be equally adroit in our discussion worthy appreciation for purple hues, smells, and flavors.”
Launched in California in April 2021, itsPurpl offers a variety of takes on the Purple Urkel strain including Stefan (aka The White X Purple Urkle) and Purple Urkle s1 #3. While shopping, customers of itsPurpl can also pick up vape pods and joints as well as the strain Mendo Purps x Zkittlez.
Snoop Dogg
“We gon’ smoke until we all out, and that’s a promise cause we got the bombest bud.” Ah yes, Snoop Dogg and cannabis go together like flower and a lighter. Leafs by Snoop included the whole works: concentrates, flowers, and edibles all artistically packaged in boutique fashion. Leafs by Snoop is only available for purchase in LivWell dispensaries in Colorado.
Martha Stewart
After years of friendship and collaboration with Snoop Dogg, it was inevitable that Martha Stewart too would offer up her own line of cannabis products. Partnering with Canopy Growth, Stewarts line offers a variety of CBD gummies and oils, all made from organic hemp and natural ingredients.
Kristen Bell
Kristen Bell, whose acting roles have ranged from “The Good Place” to “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” recently launched a product line of CBD products called Happy Dance. The brand offers customers topicals that can be used for your skincare routine including moisturizer, bath bombs, and body butter. The best part, though? In true Kristen Bell form, the company donates some of the proceeds to A New Way of Life Reentry Project, an organization based in Los Angeles that assists formerly incarcerated women.
Jim Belushi
Believe it or not, actor Jim Belushi is a big name in cannabis. In fact, Belushi has a grow known as Belushi’s Farm that encompasses 93 acres on the banks of the Rogue River in Southern Oregon’s Banana Belt, so this is no fly-by-night operation. The actor is a serious cannabis farmer, don’t cha know.
“I’ve done an in-depth study to learn the heart of the plant. You have to grow it to know it. I’ve studied the values, the science, the medicine, the agriculture, and the context of the pathway to healing that cannabis offers. This is personal for me and so many others around the world. Danny Aykroyd always said, ‘You know, if your brother John was a pothead, he’d still be alive today.’ Everyone is dealing with traumas and honoring this plant is a pathway to healing — to reverse stigma, to unite people,” Belushi told Rolling Stone in a recent interview.
And, lots of good stuff originates from that weed farm. Belushi’s Farm offers a wide range of strains, including Captain Jack’s Gulzar Afghanica, which was known in the 1970s as “The Smell of SNL.”
2 Chainz
Gassing up with rapper 2 Chainz’s line of cannabis products could be seen as the equivalent of getting your fuel for the day. Or night. Whichever kind of stoner you may be. Gas Cannabis Co. has three strains to choose from: Octane 93, Octane 89, and Octane 87. These days, if you’re a Los Angeles resident, you can even get Gas Cannabis Co. delivered straight to your door.
Seth Rogan
We’re going to go out on a limb here and say that no one will be surprised to know that the writer and star of the classic stoner film “Pineapple Express” also joined the long list of celebrities hopping on the weed train.
Partnering with Evan Goldberg, Rogan launched his company, Houseplant, first in Canada, then California. Houseplant offers custom weed strains as well as smoking accessories that Rogan himself crafted.
Trixie Garcia, aka Jerry Garcia’s daughter
What kind of Deadhead would Jerry Garcia’s daughter, Trixie Garcia, be if she didn’t cosign on a few, err, substances with the ol’ family name? Not a very good one, that’s what. But, we don’t have to worry about that, because Trixie recently launched a line of cannabis flower, pre-rolls, and gummies — all under the name Garcia Hand Picked as a nod to her dear old dad. In fact, the website even offers a clear nod to her dad, reading: “Dear Jerry — we hope we did you proud!”
The website also notes that Garcia Hand Picked products are eco-friendly and high-quality, and in true Deadhead fashion, will even have a few more tricks up its sleeve, including an Airstream named Bertha as the brand’s traveling ambassador.
Bertha will feature the brand merch, music, and “a bit of magic and bliss” — and will be heading out on tour in the near future.
The strain lineup under the Garcia Hand Picked umbrella include Chemdawg, which, according to legend, actually originated from a bag of weed bought at a 1991 Grateful Dead show.
The Game
West Coast rapper The Game knows a thing or two about trees — or, he does according to his music, anyway. And, he knows about weed according to his weed line, too, which sports the apropos name Trees By Game.
And, unsurprisingly, the rapper-turned-weed-guru is raking in the dough via that venture. Trees By Game reportedly raked in over $1 million dollars in its first year in biz, and the products now include a clothing line, rolling trays, cannabis flower, and pre-rolls.
“Our goal is to make the entire smoking experience more enjoyable by providing the finest and highest-grade flower in the industry,” The Game told High Times back in 2017 prior to the line’s launch.
But, if you want to get in on some of this Trees By Game weed, you’ll have to either live in California, wait until you take a trip to the West Coast, or hold your breath until the canna-rapper expands into Colorado dispensaries. Right now, Trees By Game is only available in the good old state of Cali.
