Get outta town: Museum of International Folk Art

by Patty Templeton

What the folk is going on here? Are those quilts from southwest China? Ayup, and you can see ’em till January 2018. Is that a giant wolfman and cowlady on a couch? Um, yep. They’re part of the “Lloyd’s Treasure Chest” exhibit up through Dec. 29. Give a glance around the room and, whammo, there’s some African metalwork, Polish figurative wood carving, and hobo art from Europe and the U.S. Get yourself down to the Museum of International Folk Art, 706 Camino Lejo, Santa Fe, to see these wonders plus 130,000 more from 34 countries.

The largest collection of international folk art awaits you in Santa Fe, and are you kidding me – it’s only $12 to get in. It’s worth checking out the museum’s calendar of events before you swing down. There’s a continual stream of movie screenings and events, like their annual free Day of the Dead celebration.
