Strain review: Mother Goddess

by Sir Blaze Ridcully

Sometimes I can’t decide whether or not I like CBD heavy strains.

On one hand, I love CBD. I find that when mixed with a low enough dose of THC, CBD does a lot to relax me and calm any anxiety I have. On the other hand, when I smoke something with a heavier dose of THC accompanied by an even still higher amount of CBD, it tends to knock me into next year, or at least as low as my couch cushions will hold my weight.

This week, we got to explore our thoughts on CBD heavy strains with a review of Mother Goddess, a strain we picked up from our generous homies at Durango’s The Green House. So, join me in my stoner journey of deciding what I think about Mother Goddess. Spoiler alert: it ends in me falling asleep right after smoking it.

These lil’ nugs were grown by our talented friends at Durango Cannabis Company. This indica comes packed with a total of 14.52 percent CBD and a little more than 7 percent THC. According to their website, this strain was one Paradise Seeds’ original medical strains, which explains the high amount of CBD. This strain was named for its strength and purity as a mother plant, and after smoking this, we couldn’t agree more.

The smell on this flower is an interesting one all right. Upon the first sniff, it has an almost spicy, exotic perfume to it, but the more you sit with the aroma, the funkier it gets. DCC describes it as mimicking the scent of Turkish delight, but as I’ve never smelled it before, it shall remain a mystery to me. It was this after-smell that I couldn’t quite put my finger on that first intrigued me about Mother Goddess.

Because of its sweet promises of relaxation, I decided to smoke this strain on an evening when I felt particularly overwhelmed by the number of things I needed to get done. Cleaning. Writing. Planning. Writing. Errands. More writing. My task list weighed heavy on my mind and I couldn’t think of a better time to smoke some weed.

Like everything I did that evening, I lit up Mother Goddess in a hurry and didn’t pay much attention to the taste. I did, however, take note of the fact that it was a very smooth smoke. I didn’t choke on fumes like I tend to do, and I appreciated the experience of not coughing up a lung.

DCC promises a “long-lasting, relaxing body buzz without the couch potato effect,” and they delivered. Mother Goddess isn’t overwhelming, so if you’re looking for a functional high, which I happened to be that evening, you’ll find a winner in this strain.

I found that for the next hour, maybe two, I was productive without dread of knowing I would wake up the next morning cringing at anything I had accomplished because it was clearly the work of a very stoned person. After an hour or two, however, I couldn’t resist the need to nod off in the middle of some writing I was doing. It crept up on me until it finally set in that I was about to fall asleep on my keyboard. So, off to bed I went and for once, I didn’t have trouble drifting off.

If you’re out there looking for a strain that will set you at a perfect medium for a relaxing high, this strain is for you. Just don’t do anything too productive after you smoke this, like cook for a large dinner party or organize your garage. Most likely, you’ll fall asleep doing it.
