Aaron Copeland, August 10Texas native Aaron Copeland is nothing if not country through and through. He grew up with a guitar in hand and his fingers on the piano keys. He first made the rounds as a teenager playing honky tonks with his dad and brothers before landing a prime spot playing keys, guitar, singing harmony vocals and eventually co-writing songs for the Casey Donahew Band. He later joined Sam Riggs and the Night People before branching out on his own, playing country music from bar to bar, town to town. And, lucky you, because Copeland will be landing in this here town on Friday night to entertain you with his Southern drawl and excellent musical skills. Can’t go wrong with that combo.

Connect Club Night with Posh Josh and Noonz, August 11In the first of what is hopefully many to come, Animas City Theatre will be hosting Connect Club Night with the help of Posh Josh, a Durango native and house music DJ who revels in spinning a hefty dose of those beloved “untz, untz, untz” beats, and also wears a damn suit while doing so. He’ll bring with him in tow Noonz to help get this party turnt, champagne glass in one hand as he scratches records with the other. Better watch yo’self. And, better get out to Animas City Theatre and dance your ass off. It’s the week’s cardio, all in one night.

Katastro, August 12With Aloha Radio and Tyrone’s JacketHip hop, pop, and alt rock fans, take note. The boys from Tempe, Arizona-based band Katastro will be taking the stage at The Rusty Shovel this Sunday to give you a little bit of e’rything you like, via the sound of brooding hip-hop-flavored pop. And they’re bringing with them Aloha Radio and Tyrone’s Jacket, just to mix things up a bit. Not that such a thing was necessary, mind you. Katastro is enough on their own, but their road warrior friends are a welcome added bonus.

Asleep at the Wheel, August 12With Stillhouse JunkiesIf we have to explain who Asleep at the Wheel is, we expect in return your explanation for living underground in a bomb shelter with no lifeline to the outside world for the last, oh, several decades or whatever. That’s the only reason one would not have encountered the badass Austin-based 8 piece, who’ve played alongside living legends like Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and George Strait, just to name a few. These killer musicians have 10 Grammy awards, 20 studio albums, and 20 singles on the Billboard country charts under their belts, and they’ll be gracing Durango with their presence on Sunday. It’s a great start to the week, this show, and if you can manage to snag tickets this late in the game, we highly suggest you do so, or grapple with the lifelong regret of missing out on these country champions. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

You Knew Me When, August 14If you’re not familiar with the Nashville-bred indie folk-rock duo known as You Knew Me When, it’s time to get familiar. You don’t want to miss their unique brand of indie-folk, which is a little fragile, a little edgy, and a lot unique. Plus, they play the ukulele with unabashed enthusiasm, a rarity these days. Their music invokes the kind of passion that can only be found in the most magical of combinations. What we mean by that is you’ll like these guys, and it might be the only time you get to see them play against the stunning backdrop in Pagosa Springs. Time to take that hour road trip.
