Ecology-based art at the DACFrom grubby drainage ditches that create the new urban wilderness to representations of storied stones, the Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave., will showcase “Shroud,” the environmental realism of painter, printmaker, and conceptual artist Peter Hay.
Hay’s exhibit examines the histories of environment and inhabitant. The free opening reception is Friday, July 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. An artist lecture will begin at 7 p.m.
Half of the proceeds of “Shroud” artwork sold will be donated to the San Juan Citizens Alliance. The exhibit runs from July 7 to Sept. 2.

The 2017 Lavender Festival runs from Friday, July 7, through Sunday, July 9, at Palisade Memorial Park in Palisade. It’ll have an art show, workshops, cooking demonstrations, and live music. Seminars are $20 each.

Guided moonlight tourHate to see that evening sun go down but love to see that moon stroll up? Watch it rise in a national park. On Friday, July 7, from 8:30 to 9:15 p.m., you can take a free, ranger-guided tour of Aztec Ruins National Monument, 725 Ruins Rd, Aztec. Weather permitting, you can witness the moonrise, take photos, and walk through Aztec West great house by lantern light.

Uke gotta check this outIt’s a freakin’ ukulele takeover of Durango! Tiny gee-tars everywhere! The Rocky Mountain UkeFest runs from Friday, July 7, through Sunday, July 9. Artists like Kevin Carroll from Austin, Jack-N-Jel from New Zealand, and Durango local Devin Scott will perform and host workshops.
There’s a mega amount of stuff to do, like the first-ever Ukulele Open Mic Night at Animas City Theatre, 128 E. College Dr., on Friday, July 7.
Tickets range from $10 for the opening reception and jam to $225 for an all-access pass.
