Ever try to go to sleep and find yourself peeing your pants because there’s a fake earthquake going on in your head? You haven’t? Well, some of us aren’t so lucky. Let me explain.
With the entirety of the world being in a funk right now, I’m approaching my dispensary visits with the goal of being surprised. No going in with a plan — for better or worse — just recommendations from the dispensary employees or going with whatever catches my eye. This round, my friendly neighborhood budtender suggested I give Coda Signature Fruit Notes a try.
Now, I’m a big fan of Coda chocolates so I was a little surprised I hadn’t heard of these until now. And, apparently, I am not alone in my chocolatey association with the brand — Fruit Notes is the company’s first venture into the fruity edible market.
“The Colorado market knows us for our truffles and chocolate bars but up until now, we have not had a fruit flavored confection to offer,” Elizabeth Cooke, Coda’s co-founder and president, said in a statement when the edibles were released back in 2019.
And Coda didn’t hold back on their fruity new venture. The company offers a whole dang smorgasbord of flavors with the Fruit Notes line: coconut and lime, mango and chile-lime, kiwi and watermelon, cherry and sarsaparilla, pineapple and jalapeno, pear and ginger, lychee and cucumber, and strawberry and rhubarb.
I went with the coconut and lime flavor as it sounded like a mixed drink I badly needed. When I got back home I dug into the bag, curious about how Coda had approached this new line of theirs.
The bag comes with 20 pieces and each morsel contains 2.5 mg of CBD and 5 mg of THC. Every little cube is coated with an infused sugar blended with spices, in this case, lime. Added bonuses: these edibles are vegan, gluten-free, and made with all-natural ingredients including real fruit and spices.
When I opened up the bag, I was hit with the strong smell of coconut tinged with lime. These edibles are aromatic, to say the least. I popped one in, thought about it some more, and ate a second one for good measure.
Like their chocolates, Coda packs a similar, powerful flavor with Fruit Notes. The creamy coconut, to my surprise, paired well with the acidic lime spices. I settled in for the evening, ready for whatever these edibles had to bring.
I found myself with a pleasant high — my head was warm and fuzzy while my body felt fully relaxed. I couldn’t pay attention to anything to save my life, so it’s a good thing I’ve already watched “Avatar: The Last Airbender” a million and one times so it made for great stoned TV bingeing.
Be warned: Fruit Notes will hit you sideways with a ferocious case of the munchies. I wasn’t able to look myself in the eye the morning after due to all the mac and cheese I ate straight out of the pot.
The most interesting part of this edible high came when I tried to go to sleep and I thought my entire bed frame was shaking. I laid quietly, paralyzed with fear believing I was experiencing my first earthquake. No such beast. Turned out, I forgot I was high and mistook the “WAH WAH WAH” vibrating through my brain as seismic activity. Don’t tell anyone I said that.
In any case, I for one am psyched to test out the other flavors Fruit Notes has to offer. Coda really went all out on these edibles, so if you’re one who’s down to try new flavors and get a little earthquake going in your head, you might want to want to pick up a bag of these during your next dispensary visit.
