Get Outta Town: Glassblowing at the GatherHouse

by Patty Templeton

It’s getting to be winter and who the hell wants to be on a raft in winter? Oh, probably you folks that also like ice climbing and polar dips. But for those souls not into arctic outdoor adventure, heat up your December by heading to the GatherHouse Glassblowing Studio + Gallery, 110 Second Ave., in Frisco.

John Hudnut creates fine art and functional household items out of 2,000-degree molten glass, and the dude wants you to give it a try, too. GatherHouse is not only a gallery space of Hudnut’s masterworks, but a teaching space where any absolute beginner can try their hand at glassblowing. There’s a Mini Glassblowing Class that lasts an hour and costs $100. There’s a three-hour, Glassblowing 101 Class that costs $145. It ain’t chump change, but let’s be real. You easily blow a hundo at the bar in a weekend.
