Edible review: Binske Pure Fortunato chocolate bars

by Sir Blaze Ridcully

Given the opportunity, I will almost always snatch up a savory snack over a sweet snack, whether stoned to high heaven or sober as a church mouse. I love my ramen, mac and cheese, and Doritos, and I dare you to pull them out of my cold, dead claws.

However, I do have one sweet space left in my cold, hard, salt-fueled heart and that is for chocolate – particularly dark chocolate. So, it really wasn’t a surprise that when I came across Binske Pure Fortunato chocolate bars while online shopping at a dispensary, I immediately plopped it into my shopping cart.

Turns out I had made a great decision.

Binske, a company that was awarded the Leafly Edible Brand of the Year (during their first year of operation) and Best Overall Company, uses single-source Peruvian cacao in their chocolates. Their edibles are made in-house with distillate from their proprietary strains. Pure Fortunato chocolate bars carry very few ingredients: 68% raw organic cacao, cacao organic butter, organic cane sugar, and cannabis oil.

These bars come with 10 pieces of candy, each piece is instilled with 10 mg of THC. On top of that, the artwork on their edible containers is badass. Seriously. Visit their website and peruse through their designs.

I probably don’t need to tell you this but I will anyway: these chocolate bars are friggin’ delicious! The amount of self-control I exhibited to not eat the entire bar at once was truly commendable. Even while writing this I’m daydreaming about nomming on it. Too bad it’s already gone …

The balance between sweet and bitter was right on the money. I’m not one for overly sweet snacks, though, so the mellow bite from the cacao was exactly what I was hoping for. It was a flavor that pleasantly lingered long after I’d partaken, as dark chocolate is wont to do.

If you’re looking for a zen high, these Pure Fortunato dark chocolates have got you covered. The notes I took while I was stoned were basically all synonyms for chill: gentle fuzziness, very peaceful, sleepy, and cloud headed. No paranoia or anxiety. Just complete and utter calm.

Normally, these are very great traits to have, especially when it’s the end of the day, you’re looking to relax on the couch, and you just want to flip Netflix on to something you’ve already seen a million times, like “The Office.” Unfortunately, that was not where my evening was destined.

Instead, I found myself seated on the floor playing very intense rounds of UNO with my roommates while blazed out of my gourd. The yelling of competitive insults, swearing, and cards that were thrown to the ground in angry defeat did not match my stoned vibe whatsoever. It also did not go over well with my UNO teammate, who was hell=bent on winning and did not feel that I was contributing enough passion to the cause. Despite these hurdles, we (SOMEHOW) managed to defeat our opponents and piss off our other roommates in the process.

It was truly a win in my book, and it was all thanks to Binske dark chocolate. OK, it wasn’t all thanks to my edibles, but it did help keep me chill under extreme duress — which frankly I think we could all use a little more of right now.
