World’s first marijuana mall coming to Colorado because life is awesome

It’s not like we need another excuse to blow all our money at yet another shopping center, but we will be doing just that, because the very first marijuana mall may be opening in Trinidad, Colo. Cue the fireworks.

Approval for what we think is the best idea of 2019 is pending the Trinidad City Council, but the world’s greatest mall is tentatively scheduled to open in April.

Cannabis advocates and developers Chris Elkins and Sean Sheridan picked Trinidad as their dream location because of the number of tourists the town of 9,000 residents already brings in along with its tolerant cannabis legislation. You should be flattered, Trinidad.

The pair have purchased a building on Commercial Street in downtown Trinidad, which will house five retail marijuana stores.

“This town has a zero-foot setback, which allows us to put five dispensaries here right next to one another. As far as we know, we are the only town in Colorado that we can do this in,” Elkins told KRDO in an interview.

The pair are convinced this revolutionary new business idea will be quite profitable for the town, and they may not be wrong. Just five years after Colorado voted to legalize marijuana, as of October 2018, medical and retail dispensaries had nearly $6 billion in marijuana sales while the state has collected almost $900 million in tax revenue off of the industry.

“I know what the industry can do for the town and I know the tourist traffic supports it so I think it will do great things,” Elkins said in his KRDO interview.
